Northwest OHV Park
Northwest OHV Park is a 3,000-acre commercial off-road park operated by the City of Bridgeport in Wise County, Texas, approximately 55 miles northwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, making it the dominant OHV destination for the 7.5-million-person DFW market and one of the largest municipally operated OHV parks in the United States. The Wise County location at the edge of the North Texas Cross Timbers gives Northwest OHV terrain that is meaningfully different from the flat East Texas mud parks and the rocky Hill Country destinations: post oak and blackjack oak forest on the sandy upland, rolling topography carved by the creek drainages flowing toward the West Fork Trinity River, and the exposed sandstone ledges and rocky creek beds characteristic of the Cross Timbers geology. The 130-plus miles of trail at Northwest OHV cover the full rider skill spectrum with rated trail designations: beginner-accessible loop trails on the flatter upland terrain, intermediate single-track through the oak forest, and advanced technical trails on the steeper creek drainage terrain. ATVs, UTVs, dirt bikes, and full-size 4x4 trucks are all accommodated on appropriate trail designations. As a municipal facility, Northwest OHV Park enforces its rules consistently and operates under a predictable Thursday-Sunday schedule that riders can plan around; the Monday-Wednesday closure is when park maintenance and trail work occurs.
